Golf wedges are an important addition to your golf gear. They are used for the challenging, short shots around the green, as well as from the sand. It is imperative that the golfer has the proper wedges in his or her bag to play the all-important short game.

There are basically four types of wedges. as outlined below, they each have their own use.

Pitching Wedge
The pitching wedge generally has a loft of around 46-51 degrees and is used for the longer wedge shots from 120 yards or closer. The pitching wedge will be included in all regular golf sets.

Sand Wedge
As the name states this club is primarily used out of the sand, but also for short shots requiring height. Sand wedges generally have a loft of around 54-57 degrees. The sand wedge will be included in a regular set of golf clubs.

Gap Wedge
The gap wedge generally has a loft of 51-53 degrees. They are basically a compromise between a pitching wedge and a sand wedge because of the loft. The can only be purchased seperatly from your regular set of irons.

Lob Wedge
Available in lofts between 60-64 degress of loft. Used for shorts requiring a significant amount of height and little distance. Good for finesse shots over bunkers.
