SKINS are perfect fit for Rory McIlroy

Posted on Saturday, 20 November 2010 04:35PM by Golf Direct - Online Golf Equipment Store offering lowest prices and first class service.
SKINS, the technical compression wear specialists, has now followed up the successful launch of it's performance-enhancing apparel for golfers with a major signing of golf’s hottest property – Rory McIlroy. The 21-year-old, who is currently ranked 7th in the world, has signed a three-year contract with the Australian brand, SKINS. Rory McIlroy has put the SKINS G400 compression apparel, which has been designed specifically to cope with the stresses and strains golf imposes on the body, through it's paces during a number of high profile golf tournaments. These have included the British Open in July and the US PGA Championship in August, in which he finished third in both events.

“There are a number of products like this around but I’ve found SKINS to be the best and most effective,” said McIlroy. “That’s probably because their G400 range apparel has been designed with the golfer in mind – not just on the course during tournaments but off it as well. I’m sure that wearing SKINS helped keep me fresh for the four arduous rounds of the US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits and to recover quickly after it. I also think they came into their own at my Ryder Cup debut at Celtic Manor. As well as having to cope with three days of intensive matchplay golf, the course presented a real physical challenge.”

In agreeing the deal, the Rory follows in the footsteps of many other elite athletes spanning across a range of sporting categories that have chosen SKINS to enhance their on and off-field performance.  Sponsoring a player who many astute judges believe is destined to become the world’s number one endorses SKINS’ determination to build on the successful launch of the G400 range. SKINS G400 products are now stocked by some of the country’s most prestigious pro-shops, including those at Open Championship venues Turnberry and Royal Troon as well as Auchterlonies, the store that backs on to the 18th hole of the Old Course at St Andrews and online stores such as www.golf-direct.co.uk. In addition, SKINS has become a PGA Official Supplier and agreed to sponsor the Association’s Fourball Championship for three years.

Commenting on the latest development, David Ling, SKINS general manager for the UK, said: “The G400 range has been well received and is selling well, but the tie-up with Rory McIlroy gives it a real seal of approval. To have one of the world’s best and most personable golfers wearing SKINS and singing its praises, especially one who is so young, is a massive boost for us. We couldn’t ask for a better ambassador to promote the brand.”

SKINS will complement the deal with Rory McIlroy by supplying retail partners with related point-of-sale and in-store promotional material that not only publicises his involvement with the brand but also emphasises its technical credentials. Garments in the G400 range – comprising tights, shorts and sleeves – are worn underneath a golfer’s clothing and designed for year-round use. Each uses SKINS’ ‘dynamic gradient compression’, which applies accurate pressure to active muscles, aiding blood circulation and increased oxygen delivery, resulting in improved performance, greater endurance and faster recovery.
