1111-junior-players-champ-winner-opt.jpgJACK CUTHBERT WINS STONHAM JUNIOR PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Jack Cuthbert, a 12 year old member of Thorpness Golf Club played one of the best rounds of his life to win the Stonham Barns Junior Players Championship. In very strong gusty winds he scored a 32 (3 over par), 5 shots better than three players on 37. Having started with a scrambling 4, holing a 10 foot putt for the bogey one the first hole he then played the next 8 holes in 2 over par, which in the winds was fantastic golf. This is the second time in three years that Jack has won this event, having won in 2009 and it was fitting as this was his last event in the Stonham Barns Juniors tournaments as he will be too old to enter next year. In 2nd place was Jude Everitt, an 11 year old from Stowmarket Golf Club, who scored a 37 and in 3rd was James Cook, a 12 year old from Thorpness Golf Club.

The Under 10 Age Category was won by on form Ryan Turnbull, this year's winner of the East Anglian Under 12 Championship. Ryan, a 9 year old from Cretingham Golf Club has now won 7 of the 8 events he has played in the Stonham Junior events in 2011, a great achievement! In 2nd place and just losing out on count back was Max Weaver, an 8 year old from Newmarket Golf Club, who is showing considerable promise for his age. In 3rd was Marcus Piper, a 9 year old from Stonham Barns, who scored a 40.

The Under 8 Age Category was won by Joshua Hulyer, an 8 year old from Haverhill Golf Club with a score of 38. Joshua has been a very consistent this year and in fact this is his 5th win in the 6 events he has played this year in the under 8 age category. In 2nd place was 8 year old Ethan Jones from Barnham Broom Golf Club and in 3rd place was James Black, a 7 year old from Ely City Golf Club.

Lastly we had four players in the Under 6 Age Category and this category was won by 6 year old Tyler Weaver, brother of Max Weaver, who scored a 43. In 2nd place Cian Long from West Suffolk Golf Club, in 3rd was Joshua Southgate from Bury St Edmunds and in 4th place was Grace Evans.

The Stonham Barns Junior Players Championship was the last of the 8 junior events held at Stonham Barns in 2011. PGA Professional Tony Dobson, the organiser of the events, said "I would like to thank all the juniors and their parents for supporting the events this year. It has been fantastic to witness the great golf these juniors play. In addition their parents should be very proud of their attitude and manners on the course. The events that we run at Stonham Barns are relaxed and friendly and they help the juniors adjust and become familiar with play in a competitive environment."

There will be another 8 events at Stonham Barns in 2012, starting in April 2012 and then monthly through to November. For detail of these see the Stonham Barns website at
