Junior Results 2011 - Event 5 - Junior Comp - August

Ben wins his first Under 12 title at Stonham Barns Junior Open

Ben Moyes, an 11 year old member of Stowmarket Golf Club, won his first under 12 title in the August  Stonham Barns Junior Tournament. Ben scored a marvellous 33 (4 over par) and despite a double bogey on his last hole he still won by three shots from James Cook and Jamie Hurren in 2nd place on scores of 36. Ben who started his golf at Stonham Barns as part of the Stonham Junior Academy has now progressed to being a member of Stowmarket Golf Club with a handicap of 22.

The Under 10 age category was won by 8 year old Max Weaver from Newmarket Golf Club with a good score of 35 (6 over par). In 2nd place was Ryan Turnbull and in 3rd place was Marcus Piper, both Stonham Junior Academy members.

The Under 8 age category was won by Joshua Hulyer, an 8 year old from Haverhill Golf Club, who score a 39. In 2nd place was 7 year old James Black on 42 and in 3rd was 6 year old Tyler Weaver on 45. Amazingly there were 11 entries in the Under 8 age category and these included five 6 year olds.

Each year there are eight Under 12 junior events at Stonham Barns and these are usually on the last Sunday of each month though April to November. The next event will be on Sunday 30th October and is open to any boy or girl under 12 as at 1st Jan 2011. For this event players can just turn up on the day and play 9 holes (anytime between 10am and 1pm) and as usual there will be prizes in all the age categories. For more information see the web site
