Junior Results 2011 - Event 2 - Stonham Flag - May


JUDE EVERITT WINS AGAIN IN STONHAM JUNIOR FLAG TOURNAMENT
Jude Everitt, an 11 year old member of Stowmarket Golf Club won the Stonham Barns Junior Flag Tournament reaching the 11th fairway with his 36th shot. This event is played based on the Wee Wonders rules where each player has 36 shots and then they put a flag in the ground where the 36th shot finishes. This is Jude’s second win in a row and he has now won the first two events of the year that has been held at Stonham Barns. Jude’s round started with a double bogey 5 on the 1st hole but then followed that with six pars in a row which given the windy conditions was excellent play. His medal score would have been only 3 over par for the eleven holes he played.

In 2nd place in the Under 12 age category was Jack Cuthbert, an 11 year old from Thorpness Golf Club, who chipped in on the 9th with his 36th shot to beat James Cook, also from Thorpness, who was on the edge of the 9th green. In the Under 10 age category 9 year old Ryan Turnbull won with another great score by reaching the 10th green of 33. Ryan, who is a member of Cretingham Golf Club, finished his round well playing his last 7 holes in 2 over par. In 2nd place, reaching the 8th green was Dylan Beadsworth, a 10 year old from Stonham Barns who was just 6” closer than his playing partner Marcus Piper, an 8 year old from Stonham Barns.

The Under 8 age category was won by 6 year old James Black from Ely City Golf Club who played a fantastic round to finish in the hole on the 8th. In 2nd place was Joshua Hulyer, an 8 year old from Haverhill golf Club, who also reached the 8th green just a few feet nearer than another 6 year old from Newmarket, Tyler Weaver.

In the girls section there were four girls that played, Georgia Robertson, Megan Aves, Mary Cuthbert and Rio Everitt, with Georgia winning the girls prize by reaching the 7th fairway.

All the players enjoyed the event with the flag format, which provided some fun as they fought to get past each other’s flag. The event was played over the scenic short 9 hole course at Stonham Barns, which is ideal for beginners and juniors.
 
Tony Dobson, the PGA Professional at Stonham Barns Golf Centre and organizer of the junior events, said “I would like to thank all the players and their parents for making the effort to play. It was a great turnout with twenty two under 12 juniors playing and I saw some tremendous golf in the tricky conditions”.

Each year there are eight Under 12 junior events at Stonham Barns and these are usually on the last Sunday of each month though April to November. The next event is their biggest of the year, the East Anglian Under 12 Junior Championship, which this year will be held on Sunday 3rd July 2011.
