Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts is leading the European Tour in driving distance after averaging 304 yards off the tee at the Abu Dhabi Championship. Colsaerts, who finished T24 at the tournament, uses a 9.5-degree Callaway Razr Hawk driver. He has averaged 308 yards off the tee with the driver in the 2012 season.

Callaway wanted to improve its bladder molded laminated construction on the Diablo Octane driver.  The RAZR Hawk driver, which was designed using the new technology, also takes advantage of the material’s shaping properties in the head, shaping an intricate pattern that improves the aerodynamics of the club.

At the PGA Merchandise Show, held Jan. 26-28 in Orlando, Fla., Titleist introduced two new NXT Tour models – NXT Tour and NXT Tour S. Joining the NXT Tour party were two other new Titleist balls, a reconfigured DT SoLo and an interesting distance ball called Velocity. The S version is slightly softer, but the NXT Tour also feels soft while generating even more distance than the previous NXT Tour.

Ryan Palmer was back in his comfort zone with his trusted old putter model in the first round of the Phoenix Open. Palmer finished off a 7-under 64 at dusk to take the lead Thursday in the suspended first round. Palmer switched back to the Odyssey putter after missing the cuts in his previous two starts this year.
