JAIMEE WINS 9th EAST ANGLIAN JUNIOR U12 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
Jaimee Hurren, a 10 year old from St Clements Golf Club, won the 9th Stonham Barns East Anglian Under 12 Junior Championship in fine fashion from a quality field of under 12 juniors from all over the region. He scored a great score of 64 (6 over par) for the 18 holes played with a last nine of 31 to win by two shots. The event which for the last 3 years has been won by Lee (The Wolf) Spurling from Leeds has finally been won by a Suffolk junior. Jaimee, who is a regular in the Stonham Barns Junior Tournaments having first played as a 7 year old in 2006, was delighted with his performance.
In second place was Jack Phillips, an 11 year old from Fynn Valley Golf Club. Jack played the first 9 in 38 and then in a remarkable turnaround shot a 1 under par 28 for the last 9 holes to finish in 2nd place. In third place was Michael Gee, a 10 year old from Bury St Edmunds Golf Club, who scored a 67 (9 over par).
This event now in its 9th year attracted 34 juniors from all over the region including one from the West Midlands, Amrit Hayer and one from Norwich, Ethan Jones, a 5 year old and winner of the under 6 age category. The event was played in perfect golfing weather, calm and bright and there were many comments praising the condition of the Stonham Barns 9 hole course which after the overnight rain was in excellent condition.
It was great to see 7 girls play in the event. The girls competed with the boys in the main event and there was in addition a girl’s prize which was won by 9 year old Chloe Rose from Clacton Golf Club.
There were prizes for the individual age groups as well and these were won by Jack Phillips (Under 12), Jaimee Hurren (Under 10 and overall winner), Dylan Beadsworth (Under 8 winner) and Ethan Jones (Under 6 winner). Congratulations to Ethan and Rio Everitt, the two 5 year olds who managed to complete the 18 holes.
The prizes were sponsored by the Golf Direct Store at Stonham Barns, with golf balls contributed by Srixon Golf, and presented by Tony Dobson, the Stonham Barns PGA Professional and organizer of the Junior Tournaments.

Stonham Barns Golf Centre has been running the East Anglian Junior Under 12 Championship since 2001. The event is open to all juniors, boys and girls, from 4 to 12 years old and is played over 18 holes at the Stonham Barns 9 hole course (twice round the 9 hole course).
